I created this page in 2007 and am just now getting to the point of posting something. Alas. Better late than never, right?

JULIE'S JEWELRY MAKING TUTORIALS

  • Fringe Focal Necklace
This is a fun, project-oriented way to learn about basic jewelry making techniques like opening and closing jump rings and the loop-and-wrap (a.k.a. wrapped loop) technique.
  • Jewelry Making Basics
In this handout you'll learn about design basics and how to professionally finish a strung bracelet and necklace with stringing cable, crimp tubes, wire guardians, and crimp covers and the purpose of each component. Tutorial also includes information on different kinds of pendant bails. You'll also get information on opening and closing jump rings and an overview of the basic tools used in jewelry making. As a bonus you'll also receive an overview of the loop-and-wrap technique to use for creating earrings. $10

    JULIE'S GLASS TUTORIALS

  • Making A Basic Lampwork Bead
This web review is just meant to get you thinking about lampworking and to give you enough information to start asking questions, not to replace taking a class with a reputable instructor.
  • Julie's Boro Bead Recipes

  • I'm making this available for free right now because, in its current form, it's more of a notebook than a real tutorial. Beware that I'm not promising great photos or even great color combinations, but at least you'll know what not to try :) I will say that there are a few gems in there and hopefully that will make it worth wading through the rest.

It is my hope that sometime in 2011 I will be adding an option for people to take online courses with me, including detailed electronic instructions, e-mail assistance at any time, and possibly videos. The tuition for those will likely be in the neighborhood of $20 to $45, depending on the class and the intricacy of the instructional materials.

I do my best to make my tutorials, even the free ones, thorough. Sometimes learning a technique in print cannot replace learning in person. In that case here is always the option of taking a class from me at Knits & Pearls in Arden Hills. See the class schedule for more details.

    TUTORIAL & BOOK REVIEWS
Although I don't usually find I need someone to show me how to do many things (because I'm happy to screw things up on my own until I figure it out), I do like to read what tips and insights other people have to offer so I can figure out what I don't know that I don't know (because, heaven knows, there's a world of potential disasters out there that I have yet to explore).

As such, I have acumulated quite a library of books and tutorials. I thought I'd give a brief review of the ones I have here incase you were looking for a second opinion for something on your wish list.

  • If I had any reviews done yet they would be here.
  • Please e-mail me if you have any questions.
